11/14/13

Alam ko na si Jesucristo ay ang ating tagapagligtas (I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior - Tagalog!) I made up a song out of this to memorize it.. Sister Retuta dances to it with me.. so much fun. :)

Helllllo there everyone!
Whew! What a busy week! And so exciting as well! We've had so many early morning meetings last week that President Gillette let us sleep in until 8 one day! That was a huge relief. If you're not aware, we get up everyday at 6:30 (and earlier than that when we have early morning meetings). We've had to practice for this Musical Fireside that the Temple Square missionaries put on for investigators and their missionaries in Salt Lake City. It was AMAZING!!! We've also been called to repentance on some behavioral issues we've been having recently... hmph.

There are so many exciting things to share, I hardly know where to start!! I'll start with this concert thing we put on. It happened this past Tuesday evening and my goodness, talk about a spiritually uplifting edifying everything opportunity! It was a full house and we were so excited to be able to help people feel the spirit. I mean, my hear was just so overflowed it was impossible not to have a smile on your face! Plus, Stephen (the one who just got baptized) was able to come and he brought some friends! Which was so nice! And then Sister Nielsen brought her 3 sons and also my investigator, Jessi!!! It was so fun to see all of them! I haven't had a chance to talk to Jessi about it but that is sure on my to-do list! Also I ran into Sister Rebeka Monarrez who is serving her mission in Salt Lake City South that I know from church back home!

Ahhh!!! Coooolest thing everrrrr....! So two times throughout my mission I'll be able to do Temple service where we go and clean the Temple. So some sisters don't ever get to go anywhere they don't usually go to when they go but WE DID!!!! I was on exchanges with my zone leader and we got to go to the Assembly Room (Which is the highest room in the Temple). I'm so sorry I forgot to take a picture of the Temple Model that we have to show you what it looks like... but it was so much fun and actually much smaller than what I expected, but awesome nonetheless. I got to sit where the prophet is during these big meetings only 3 times a year in there. And then we got to go clean the big spiral staircase all the way from the highest point of the Temple. It was an experience I'll always remember! And they gave us cookies and popcorn after! Wooohoo!!

I'll start off with one of my not so exciting tid bits of information -- I've been teaching this SUUPERRR smart man named JB and literally I've been addressing so many of his concerns, sincere heart felt prayers go out to him everrryy nightt, find answers to his questions during my personal study, and I spend just about an hour on the phone with him every appointment, you name it. Then he really asked this very thought provoking question for me, and so i went to Elder Palmer (now brother but he used to serve his mission here in Temple Square with Sister Palmer) and I started explaining everything to him and then he tells me. Sister Cuevas, you don't even need to tell me his name. Is that JB? And i was like WHHAAATTT?! How did you know that?! And then he goes off to tell me that this man has been calling in for years and simply just is here to waste our time. He is a leader of this anti-mormon group and this minister for his church and he just talks to missionaries to make them doubt all of there beliefs and yadda yadda. Brother Palmer worked a lot with the church to get his number blocked and somehow he found his way back in. Little did I know that I was teaching an anti this whole time. And it honestly left me heartbroken. Our purpose here is not to waste time but simply to help people draw nearer to Christ. What is wrong with people in this world? That's just so mean to me! And I've had a lot of forgiveness to do. I like to think that he's not wasteing my time, so I'm going to call him one last time and be as direct as I can. wish me luck. :/

BUT! Don't worry... that didn't put me down too much.. because remember how I told you about Andrew's wife last e-mail?? How she was possibly willing to meet with us? Well, Andrew told me that she was willing to come to Temple Square to visit here and meet us and then he told me that his work told him that he had to go to australia and he really didn't want to go but he knew he had to, etc.. We were so sad, but he asked us for scriptures he could read on his flight so i guess that lightened our mood a little bit... so then we gave him some and didn't talk to him the following day...quite depressed and really mad at Satan... to then a day later get a text message that said "So I never got on the plane. Came back home to be with my wife. She was reading the Book of Mormon last night with me! She wants a relationship with Heavenly Father!!!! God answered my prayers. I had to go home to my wife. Temporal vs. eternal" CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! I was so overwhelmed with excitement you have NO idea!! By the way, she also has said that she wants to go to church on Sunday! Talk about a change of heart!!!! I can't wait to talk to her!! Lovely lovely Lovely.

Oh! And so we also have some other investigators that are phenomenal and two have baptism dates!!! But if I write about them now I'll take him too much time... so I will soon I promise! Jerry from Tennessee and Shelby from Alberta, Canada!

My scripture that I've really loved this week is in the Book of Mormon in Alma 5:14that reads
" 14 And now behold, I ask of you, my brethren of the church, have ye aspiritually been bborn of God? Have ye received his image in your countenances? Have ye experienced this mighty cchange in your hearts?"

Can you guess why I like it so much??  That's what being a Christian is all about! Have a change in our hearts to put God first and help share the happiness and joy that the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings into our lives. We should always be radiating the love of our Savior. Your value doesn't depend on what you do, but who you are. I know who I am and I will always and forever love my the Lord my God with all my heart, might, mind & strength!
If you can't say yes... its OK. Just do your best. Heavenly Father simply wants us to strive to be our BEST self. He loves us always always always.

I love you so much!
Mahal na mahal kita!

SMILE :D , BE HAPPY :) , & REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE! <3

Love always,

Sister Corina Selene Cuevas
