Happy Pioneer Day!! 7/24/13

Aloha!!! :D
I'm finally out on my mission, and it is FANTASTIC!!! Seriously. I have met girls from SO many different countries - I am just amazed!
They gave me an American Flag to wear, and I feel so weird wearing it! No one knows I speak Spanish and it's extremely frustrating! I asked them to give me a Mexican flag and I should be getting one within the next couple days! :) Wooohooo!!! I was told that I'm going to be giving tours in Spanish the majority of the time and I will also have to translate what my companion has to say when she wants to communicate to them. What a nerve-wracking/super-exciting opportunity!

First things first, my companion is from Hawaii, and her name is Sister Hee. She is so extremely sweet! I just arrived here yesterday and today is my p-day (preparation day) so I don't really have super exciting stories yet, but next week I will for sure! My companion and I are on the same page with so many things! She says she's really hard working which makes me really excited to see how much I will grow and to see what we will accomplish! This is supposed to be her last transfer but she got permission to extend her mission for another transfer. (each transfer is 6 weeks.. we will usually change companions/assignments/leadership positions every transfer too) Our companionship is going to be really different and my first 6 weeks here is going to be really different from most missionaries. My companion has the assignment as a Temple Square Coordinator and the other sister that has that same assignment is also training a new missionary so we are all sort of in a quad-panionship... Haha! I love it. The other Temple Square Coordinator is from the Phillipines and then her other companion is from Mexico! :) I'm sorry if that's kind of confusing..
What makes my mission so unique is that in the MTC (missionary training center) we had the opportunity to visit our mission before we even came here and on top of that -- anyone that I talked to that day and gave me their contact information to keep in touch with, I was able to bring back with me and are now people that I am helping! I'm working with two people right now.. One is an inactive member named Craig who has been going through a "faith crisis" kind of thing. I am so convinced that Heavenly Father puts you where you need to be to help his children. We talked about things that he is struggling with and let me say I am just BEYOND grateful that I took my Philosophy of Religion class at BYU. It helped me with so much and prepared me to answer all of his questions! It was amazing! Since we've been talking he is now praying again AND reading the scriptures with a Christ-centered focus. Missionary work makes me so happy!!
Well, I have been here for a little over a day and I have already had two random people do really nice things for me and my companion.
1. Yesterday for dinner we didn't really have a lot of time so we had to run to McDonalds and bought a cheese burger and small fries. This random man came up and said "Here, I'll pay for your meal", put ten dollars on the table and left before we could say much of anything! It was the sweetest thing and honestly warmed my heart! Talk about a man full of love and charity for others!
2.The second wonderful thing that happened was this morning... Since today is Pioneer Day there was a HUGE parade down town that our Mission President allowed us to go watch! There were 6 of us sisters walking trying to find a place to sit and we were about to go sit on these bleachers that had a super great view of the parade, when this man politely asked "Do you sisters have tickets? You have to have tickets to sit on the bleachers" When we told him that we didn't he gave each of us a ticket FOR FREE. Each ticket was $7 dollars but he just did it out of kindness. It was so amazing! I love being a missionary!
I also have been able to use my experience with phones to help out the mission, which is so cool! I'll probably be helping out quite a bit with that because no one knows what do to when something bad
happens - makes me happy that I can help!

Other than all of that - I'm doing great!  I'm seriously always hungry... but that's nothing new really. lol.
I love you all!!!! I invite you this week to strike up a conversation with someone you don't know -- whether it's in line at a grocery store or just walking on the side walk & leave them feeling happy. You're going to have to be creative...but PLEASE do it. You just read how much it meant to me...   :D
Also, please don't hesitate to write me letters!! It's so true when they say that you live at the mailbox! :)
Smile :D, Be Happy :), & Remember who you are!!! <3
Love always,
Sister Corina Selene Cuevas

Fun Fact: My mission currently has 177 sisters, but they are planning on making it 220 within the next couple transfers!
