:D This is my favorite time of the week! I honestly look forward to writing about some of the awesome experiences that go on here in Louisiana!
I leave tomorrow to Morgan City and I'm so excited and nervous and sad and all kinds of emotions. I honestly really really really wanted to help this ward and this area get better. I have all kinds of ideas and things were finally beginning to change and now I'm going to be leaving. It just kills me. I've had so many members tell me the sweetest things and it makes me want to cry! In particular there is one couple, Maria and Jesus who we went to go say goodbye to yesterday. Maria is from Honduras and her husband, Jesus is from Durango Mexico!! So him and I became super close because none of the missionaries are ever hispanic (quite rare) and since my mom is from there it made it all the better. Maria was telling me how she was so upset that I was leaving and that she was telling her daughters all about how she wishes so bad she had control over where they put me because she felt that my energy and excitement to do missionary work got her hopes up for a change. She was just so darn sweet and told me all kinds of things about how every time I've come into her home she can immediately feel the love from me and that I just leave a really good feeling in her heart. She was telling me all kinds of gifts that I didn't even think I had and how special she knows I am. I couldn't believe she had so many things to say - I didn't even spend a whole ton of time with her... it just testifies to me that if we are doing what we are meant to be doing, people will feel it regardless of whether we think they will or not. It's times like that when it really makes me wonder what Heavenly Father has in store for me in Morgan City. I fully trust that my mission president is inspired though, and I'm trying really really hard not to complain. (but my goodness talk about humility!!!)
The Haitian family that we have been teaching the Elders in New Orleans with has been doing SOOOO great! Sister Lundi and her 6 kids all came and looked so adorable!! Earlier in the week she invited us over to her house to make something called potatoe bread (SUPER YUMMY) its something they make in haiti and its like a dessert almost. Anyways, it was so much fun! Her and I have gotten so close and every time she says something you know she means it because she doesnt speak english very well at all.. but she basically told me I was like another daughter to her. When I told her that I was leaving she just got so upset and wouldn't talk and was rubbing her forehead and said "You made me sad" :'( ahh!!! Well, I promise I wont make this whole email depressing.. the good news is that she told me she has 2 older daughters too.. One lives in Haiti and the other one lives in UTAAHHHH!!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it!!!!!! I was so so so so sooooo exicted and it gets me even more excited to go back to temple square and teach her and meet her! I am so happy!!! so so happy! What a tender mercy of the Lord. And again - NO COINCIDENCE! <3 <3 Yayyy!!!
We've seriously found about 3-4 new families to teach this week alone! This is my conclusion though.. Heavenly Father has moved me around to so many different areas so that when I go back to Temple Square I will be busier than I've ever been helping all of the people I found come closer to God and Jesus Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel. I've prayed for peace about it and that was my answer. I'm so happy!
My companion, Sister Roberts & I are still struggling to get one the same page with things. But I am doing all I can. The rest is in the hands of the Lord. I've really realize though the importance of just loving anyone and everyone. It makes me happy to see people happy and that's all I care about. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, has led us to make those kind of choices and it makes me happy to be a part of this. I love Jesus so much! I just want his love to fill the world. Every single dark little crevice to be filled with light. There is hope ahead but it starts when us. It starts with YOU! We are to be the light to the world of who a disciple of Christ really is. WE are the ones with this heavy responsibility to live a life pointing others to Him who heals all. Let your light shine everyone!
With lots of love,
Sister Corina Selene Cuevas
p.s. We've met some really funny crazy people this week too.. and today we are going back to New Orleans to eat a little more food and go shopping downtown. People tell us all kinds of crazy witchcraft stuff and stories and it freaks us out most of the time.. but it's weird how these things are so real! The one old lady told us how we need to watch whose food we eat and to make sure to bless it because back when she was young her mother in law didnt like her and did something to her here in New Orleans before she went back to mexico that caused her all this pain and no doctors could figure anything out and when she was on the bus one day this random lady asked her the kind of pain she was having and gave her this witch doctor to visit and then so goes to this guy and he like tells her all this stuff and then gives her all these things to take and do and then the next day she went to the bathroom and these long wormy parasites came out of her and she was healed! It was so crazy!
