Hiii!!! :D
Another wonderful wonderful week! Crazy, but wonderful nonetheless. First thing - Sister Wily and I were able to go to Morgan City, this town like about 1 hr and a half away to participate in this luau that some other missionaries were putting on. We did a dance for these 100+ people that were there and Sister Wily was the star of the show playing her ukulele and singing. She's seriously amazing! It was a super legitimate luau... they roasted 2 pigs and we had all kind of dances and stuff that were performed. It was really cool!!! And we got to spend the night at a members house! It was her aunt :) It felt like a sleepover and for a little while I was really weirded out because I wasn't in my everyday routine when I woke up. I attached some pictures though for you all. :)
Speaking of the ukulele! Sister Wily is teaching me how to play and just FYI, there is a reason I never learned how to play an instrument. I AM TERRIBLE! Hahaha... but I told Sister Wily if she can teach me how to play 3 songs that I will buy one. She's taught me two but we only have a week and a half left before transfers!! :( Which, by the way, at the Luau, President Wall told me that I was for sure going to be changing areas and he told me what I would be doing and I am super nervous! I'll tell you when it's set in stone next week Which by the way - I wont be sending out my email until Tuesday!
One really unpleasant thing that I've realized is that people seriously think missionaries are not people. I swear! I'm like, okaaay, you don't have to be weird to me just because you know I'm LDS. Come on! I'm just a normal person who wants people to taste of the goodness that I have in the Gospel of Jesus Christ! We went to go visit this family who have not been to church in yearrrrsssss, and when everyone was all hanging out in the living room like a good 5 or 6 people chit chatting and we met one of the older daughters whos like 25 outside and she let us in and said "Mom, the Mormon missionaries are here" and EVERY SINGLE PERSON left the room except for the mom. It was like when you turn on the light in a room full of roaches. They scattered THAT fast. (and yes, I am using a roach analogy partially bc I've been cleaning a roach infested home for the past 2 weeks)... We couldn't even say hello. I was like whoa! What did we do? It's not like we are going to go in there and tell them that they are terrible and they need to change their lives and become Jesus freaks! We just wanted to go meet them! It broke my heart... but hopefully as we continue to go regularly, one or two may come out.
Anyways, so Gene and Lindsey are seriously the best blessing the Lord has allowed me to be a part of. Seriously!!! They are just the BEST! And Gene is an absolutely incredible missionary and he's not even baptized yet!!! He has been telling all of his neighbors about us and what he has been learning and he has given us some of their information to go and talk to them and from doing so we have found some new investigators!!! And what the coolest thing is that every time we talk to them they are always like "there is something different about Gene since he has been meeting with you. He has always been a happy guy but he is literally radiating this peace and happiness when he talks to us" and every single neighbor we went to talk to said the SAME THING. It was incredible. And his friend Jimmy told me that as far as developing a relationship with God, he didn't need us for that because he already had that down, but since we have taught him the gospel, he has found himself understanding so much more when reading the bible and he is so much happier as a result. Pretty awesome, huh? Well, so his friend Jimmy and his wife Kim were our new investigators but I am almost positive someone said something negative to Kim and now she doesn't want to meet with us anymore, even though - by the way - we had an AMAZING first lesson with them! But everyone in their due time. She ended up sending us a text in the week canceling our later appointment, but the point is that Gene texted us asking if we got her text and then said when he was talking to Jimmy she came and got on the offensive about the church but that we should just continue to pray for her and that God will take care of the rest. And then he said... which absolutely warmed my heart beyond belief "I believe that you guys are god sent, I told them I believe that" <3 <3 <3 Kills me! And then yesterday at church Lindsey was like "Why do I have to wait to be baptized until March 8th? Can't I be baptized tomorrow, or the next day? What about this Saturday?" SO CUTE! They are just the greatest and make every tiresome day worthwhile. Gene is SUCH a humble man.
Want to know my embarrassing moment of the week??? SISAR NIELSEN - THIS IS FOR YOU ;)
Gene took us out to lunch at this Mexican restaurant called "Las Palmas" and we had this awesome waiter that truly looked Hispanic and didn't speak English very well. So we are about to leave and Sister Wily and I decided we were going to leave a little pass-along card of Jesus with a little note attached to it. So I just assumed that this guy could understand Spanish and you know, inviting him to learn more, letting him know our message can help people as they face many different challenges in their life, and then gave him our number. So we leave all happy and content and then he sends us a text not too long after and said "Hello. I'm the waiter from Las Palmas.. thank you for the note but I don't speak Spanish and my friend in the kitchen read it for me" OMGSH hahahah.. it was so embarrassing. Then to find out that he speaks Arabic and is from Jordan and on top of all of that is Muslim! Hahahah. Sister Wily has been telling everyone. :P lol.....
Well, I hope everyone has a wonderful week! Please remember that I love mail!! :D
Love,
Sister Corina Selene Cuevas :D
