I LOVE MY LIFE! 2/10/14

Helllloo!

Seriously, I honestly just love everything about being a missionary. I think about going home and not doing what I do all day long and I dread the thought of it!!! I just love this! I love it so much.
So many miracles have happened this week. It has seriously been one of the best weeks of my  mission! I love it love it love it.

I don't even know where to start.
Emily is doing wonderfulllyy! She is just loving life and loving everything. The members in this ward are phenomenal and just help investigators feel so incredibly loved and welcomed that it makes such a difference in the work that gets done. It is so cool! Last night they were doing this thing called "New beginnings" for all the young women in the ward and she was a part of it and was talking about the value "Choice and Accountability" and she explained what choice and accountability means and then she said " I am using my choice and accountability by choosing to be baptized because I know this church is true!" I just about flipped over. It was the cutest darn thing ever. She is so precious! She even went to the mall with her neighbor and bought the cutest modest dress that had sleeves and everything! Her baptism is this Saturday and she is inviting all of her friends from school and everything. Ah! I just can't believe it. It makes me so darn happy
.
Also! We have some new investigators who are all progressing!! Okay, let me start with Gene and his 11 year old daughter, Lindsey! He's a single dad and we found them when calling some potentials in the area book. it was the day that we were stuck inside so I went through and called all these people that had at one point in time given missionaries their phone number. So we eventually got the chance to go teach him and he was like "I don't see why this wouldn't be true" And that is exactly right! Honestly, the gospel of Jesus Christ just makes perfect sense. I just wish everyone would just take the time to listen to our message to see if it clicks to them too, because it is so simple and perfect. I just love it! Best part is that they went to church this sunday too!! Lindsey had such a great time, there are 3 other girls her age who just instantly clicked with her and they now have plans to hangout and everything. When we first went to their home, Lindsey said before we left "My dad has been looking for a church to go to for years, and now, you just come to us!" Gene has a baptism date for March 1st! And Lindsey was outside playing with some other kids but she also expressed her desire to be baptized after we explained the first lesson. It was honestly just a great miracle. He was telling us how he has studied with so many different faiths but none of them seemed to feel completely right - but now he is committed to continue to learn more, read the book of mormon, and be baptized! :D

Then there is Devin! Whew, this situation is really crazy and honestly one of the most humbling experiences I have had thus far on my mission. So Devin's mom joined the church 3 years ago but stopped coming immediately after for whatever reason. We went to go visit her and realized the world of problems that have been going on with them. It is so sad to me! She just has so many problems, she was diagnosed with clinical depression, has a really bad skin disease that causes open sores to be all over her body, she was sexually abused as a child, is a single mom with no way to get a job, her car got stolen, and this list goes on and on. They are both living in this roach-infested home full of huge roaches, little roaches, spiders, moldy food, etc. Devin is 18 years old, he has longgg blonde hair (longer than shoulder length), and has a beard, and every day that we have gone to visit them has been in the same clothes. :( He dropped out of high school at 16, has never had a father figure in his life, no license, and he really feels like his life has no purpose. We have immediately started doing everything within our power to help them. We have been over at their apartment almost every day to clean and with our bishops help, we have gotten him some clothes to wear to church and job interviews, etc. He really has a desire to make something of his life and I am SO excited to even be able to play the slightest part in helping him achieve that! At church on Sunday he too found a family that he instantly clicked with. We taught him the Plan of Salvation and then at church it just so happened (though not by coincidence) that they were teaching that in our 3rd hour and we were told he was answering all the questions! It was the neatest thing. We actualy saw him SMILING soooo much and wow, there is just seriously nothing more fulfilling! I can't wait to continue to help him! He also accepted baptism but we are working on finding a date. I am so happy for him. He has his whole life ahead of him and we are going to do everything we can to provide the resources for him to get out of that environment. Regardless of whether or not sister wily and I leave their feeling like bugs are crawling all over us, we are so happy to be doing anything to help the work of Heavenly Father..!

One kind of funny story that happened too was when we went to visit Michelle (Devin's mom) and him we went up to these apartments that were kind of scary and ghetto, but nonetheless, confident we were doing what the Lord needed us to do. So, we stop in front of the building and don't see anyone around so it was perfect for us to pray (bc we do that before we ever go into someones home) and so we are praying as usual and then we end our prayers and there are these 2 black guys just staring at us...HAHAHA. It was seriously the most awkward thing ever...  So sister wily and I are just like, thatsss soo awkwardd... but nontheless we get out of the car, and are walking up to the apartment where Devin lives we say hi and keep walking as we are like well - at least they'll know that we are holy people! Hahaha! Anyways, later we end up going to get something from our car, and I complimented their hats, they asked where we were from, we asked if they had ever heard of our church, etc... and then one of them tells us that he has actually played basketball at our church building before but never knew anything about what we believed. SO AWESOME. Coincidence?? Not at all! We got his number and have planned a time to visit with him again. Super awesome, right? I know!! He calls himself "G" haha. :D

Well, honestly I could probably write so many more things that have happened this week but those are some of the best! I honestly really just wow, I can't believe Heavenly Father trusts me this much. I am so happy he is trying to use me the best way I can be used for the time period that I'm here.

I love you all and hope that you are continueing to work on your relationship with Christ and with our Heavenly Father! Best thing you could ever do. Pray pray pray! <3

Love always,
Sister Corina Selene Cuevas
