Something pretty exciting this week - I stepped out of my comfort zone and I ate CRAWFISH!!!!!!! It was actually pretty good but I'm not sure that I would ever choose to eat it again. I was really weirded out because they just look so alive still when theyre cooked and it freaks me out. But it's a good thing I had some experts around me to teach me! (aka my investigator and sister scollan) I've tried almost all Louisiana foods. The culture down here is so unique! I'm going to miss it so much! I only have a month left and it blows my mind...
TRANFERSS ARE HEREEE! & I'm STAYING!!! Finallyyyy!!! :D Haha. I get to spend the rest of my time here in MoCity! The sad news is that both Sister Roberts & Sister Scollan are getting transferred!! I can't believe it. I've only been here for 2 weeks and definitely don't feel I know the area well enough to take it over! I'm so scared... but I know that it will all be alright. I'm really leaning on Christ right now because whewww. As the youth leaders, we have to do a fundraiser kind of thing for the girls in this area so they can go to girls camp this year. The money is due on May 1st and we have just barley started working on putting together a yard sale and I'm so stressed. I've never felt so overwhelmed being a missionary and having to worry about this young girls. It's so sad because so many of the parents just dont care or dont understand why it is so important to help their children in developing their relationship with Christ. Many of these girls have parents who are super bad examples and we have 13 year olds cussing like crazy and 10 year olds dressing extremeeellyyyy inappropriately. It breaks my heart. There are some really really good girls too, but they are few and far between. There is so much work to be done here! We have this little branch down here and its so sad because many of the hispanics wont come to activities or even come to church unless there is food involved. It makes me laugh, but at the same time its super frustrating! I'm hoping we can get that to change. I have so much hope for this area and I really believe it will turn around as me and my new companion work hard to make a change.
I had a pretty neat experience this past week when we were going to visit this young boy that we met and talked to for a while. I mean it was kind of a scary experience but it was really cool. So, its just about 6pm and the sun is still out and we were going to this kind of ghetto trailer park that I'm pretty used to being around, but when we started driving down the street there were more cars there than normal and at first I didnt think much of it but as we kept driving closer and closer I kept getting really negative feelings and vibes and so my stomach flipped, I got chills all over my body, and my eyes were started to water. It was the weirdest thing I've ever experienced and I told my companions that I didnt' feel very good about it. So I was debating whether or not we should still go but when I thought even the slightest bit about parking the car to go to his home, my eyes got more watery and my heartbeat got faster. Bottom line - we didn't end up going because I KNEW it was a spiritual prompting to get out of that area and I listened. I never before in my life have ever felt something so strongly prompt me to leave than at that moment that day. I will never forget it because as soon as we turned out of the area I felt myself slowly get back to normal and then I felt a peace come over me. It's so hard to explain, but I am just so amazed at the protection that we have from the Lord. I KNOW that it was his spirit telling me not to go. Someone can't just have those feeling and think it is just by chance that happens. It doesn't. I know God loves us and looks out for us and that in moments when we need to be protected, we need to listen. It's kind of bitter sweet because I wonder what the alternative would have been, but I'm glad I listened and left. Like I said, it was a really neat experience.
Super awesome miracle in finding people to teach - once againnn!! :D I'm so happy because we found these two awesome awesome awesome girls!!! They're Venezuelan & GORGEOUS! Genesis (20) & Elizabeth (19)! Their mom before was dating this guy who goes to our branch, but since then they aren't dating much anymore but she agreed a long while back to have missionaries go over. So we went to her house and Elizabeth answered the door and we talked for a good long while and we set up an appointment to go back the following day and when we did we got to know them super well and instantly, like I mean instantly, became super close. Liliana even told us that we now have a Venezuelan mom while we are here and she told us how she wants us to come over and spend time with her daughters because she has never seen girls our age out talking about Christ with such strong convictions as we do. She asked us all about why are out here on missions and we talked about the ups and downs of missionary life, etc. We then taught a little bit of the Restoration with them and talked about the Book of Mormon and just bore super strong testimony about it all & both Genesis and Elizabeth were in amazement like "wow!" throughout the whole thing. & They both committed to be baptized as they prayed and received confirmation that what we teach is true!!!!!! I was so happy. We just left there on a spiritual high. We are meeting with them again tomorrow. :) 2 future sister missionaries right there!! :D Love them so much!
I hope you all continue to smile and keep your chins up! There are so many miracles around everywhere. By the way everyone - theres a beautiful beautiful day just around the corner... EASTER!! :D The church put out this beautiful beautiful BEAUTIFUL 2 min and 44 second video about the savior. You HAVE to watch it!! Please. I invite you to. :) It's soooo goood!!!!
Love you all so much! Remember to put Christ at the center of your homes!
Love love love,
