Hope you all had an awesome Easter. It was a really good day and really fun:) We had a super good time and lesson with the youth and young women on Sunday and after we went to this party thing that was going on with our neighbors. I'll tell you more about that later... lol but it was so much fun!!
Ohhhh!!!!! So transfers happened and I'm with Sister McClendon from Arizona again!!! I was in the quad with her and Sister Palmer in Kenner but her and I switched companions and now Sister Roberts is back in Kenner with Sister Palmer! It is so much fun being with Sister McClendon. I don't think I've had a companion who has made me laugh so hard, ever, throughout my entire mission. Seriously, she is so awesome. Last night we were crying and could hardly breath we were laughing so hard for just no particular reason at all. She's so crazy and just a ton of fun. I love her!!! We also have been working out super a lot because well, you know.. hahaah. and there is just so much unity within us! I feel so happy and so grateful to spend my last little bit here with her. When transferred first happened we were on our 1 1/2 drive back to Morgan City from Baton Rouge and her GPS took us to a river and told us to cross it when there was nothing there to do that... It was hilarious. We are like what in the world?! Haha, we got soooooo lost and ended up taking like 3 hours to get home. That's like our life every day in this area. I get lost all the time because neither of us know anything. You live and you learn and I can't complain.. lol.
So real quick little updates and fun little stories -- there is a woman in the branch who just got called to be the young women's president and I just died of happiness because it takes SOOOO much stress off of our shoulders. Given, we are still the counselors, but it is so helpful and awesome and God is great! :)
We met this Filipina lady, Ms. Riza and it got me so excited because I was able to talk in some Tagalog to her from what I learned when I was with Sister Retuta. She gave us some Lumpia (filipino egg rolls) and we gave her a book of mormon and she's just the cutest thing ever. We are going to work out with her at least once a week in the morning.. haha.
Michael, the guy who we met in the library who was super awesome, became kind of a creeper and started hitting on me a lot and we had to stop teaching him. :( He sent just a text message one morning asking me to go out on a date with him the first friday off of my mission. Hes a 47 year old man. We tried working through it but it just didn't work and he didnt understand how un-okay that is. :( It makes me really sad. Really really sad. He's planning on moving to Oklahoma though and hopefully he one day finds a sincere interest in the gospel. He watched General Conference and I hope he doesnt forget how he felt as he listened to those talks.
One really cool thing though that we all did, (real quick background for understanding. Each local congregation is usually called a 'ward' unless it doesn't have a whole ton of members there then its called a 'branch' and several 'wards' make up what is called a 'stake' and so in each stake there are leaders for the women 18+ (relief society) and the young women and then over everyone entirely) So our Stake Young Women's president lives 2 hours away and came last sunday to help destress us and set up a time to get all the girls together that coming friday to eat pizza and cut out hearts and write notes to post all over our old branch young womens presidents house and for her daughter. they both hadn't been to church in a really really long time... so we did that with some of the young women and we tried being all sneaky about it and then that sunday at church the daughter, Madison (shes 12) came to church with her grandma!!!!!!!!! AND now she wants go to girls camp this summer! I just couldn't believe it and I was so happy and all the girls were so happy they are all excited and motivated to go and do it for other girls who haven't been back in a while. :) The girls are planning a sleepover party this wednesday (bc its spring break) and they want to get all the supplies and stuff. It's so awesome to be working with these girls and I'm so happy to have such an awesome stake young womens president. Leaders seriously change lives!!!!!
Awesome cool little miracle. We were about to leave to go visit Ms. Riza (the filipina) and we saw our neighbor getting all this stuff out of her car as she was jamming to some latin music and so i told sister mcclendon we should go try and help her and so we did and she was super friendly and was talking about how she works a lot but that some jehovas witnesses came her house not too long ago and have been leaving things in her door but she hasnt read them yet and then she asked if we were jehovas witnesses and when we told her no she got super confused and asked us which church we go to and we said "La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Ultimos Dias" and she goes (with tons of excitement in her voice) "Oooooh!!! Esa me gusta!!" and then she told us how she wants to go to church with us next week bc she usted to go to our church for a little when she lived in Minnesota!!! & she told us that we need to make sure to keep in touch with her and all this stuff and we were like whoa!!! so cool!! absolutely! And so we help her take her stuff inside and the man she is living with comes and helps too and they were super sweet and invited us to the mans birthday party they were going to have the following day ( on easter ) and so we went to the party the next day and they gave us some Honduran tamales (which are waaaay different from mexican tamales they're HUGE and have meat and rice and potato and green beans and all kinds of stuff inside of them) and then invited us to come back later for some carne asada. So we came back later and met all kinds of people and how we have like 3 potential investigators and are going to start teaching a family english!! We are so pumped. It gets me so excited!! I love being a servant of the Lord.
Which reminds me of how i wanted to bear a short testimony about the love I have for my Savior. I have honestly never felt so close to him. The more I teach and testify to people about Him, the more my love for him intestifies. Its so hard to explain, but Easter is so special because of what he did for us and why it even matters. I Love thinking that Christ has paid for our sins and died for us and because of him and because he resurrected, we will all rise again one day. It is incredible. and it is such simple doctrine and can not touch you deeply if you don't study it and build that relationship with him, but I know it is worth it. I hope you all watched the video "because of him" on mormon.com/becauseofhim -- if not, pleaseeee do! Because of Him I am the person I am today. Because of Him I am capable of loving all people. Because of Him I know my divine nature and my potential as a child of God. I love Jesus Christ and I love his Gospel! I know that it is true and that he changes lives.
<3
Smile and make people happy this week!! :)
Lots of love,
Sister Corina Selene Cuevas!
