Well, so some super fun things - Sister McClendon and I went to an alligator farm last week and they gave us a tour and we got to see all these kinds of alligators and we even got to hold one! Sister McClendon forgot her camera at the apartment though so I cant send you pictures! Hopefully I remember to next week. The lady was all telling us how there are only 2 alligator farms in the US and that this was one of them and the other is in another part of Louisiana. I feel so fortunate to have been able to go! So awesome.
On Tuesday though - had to be one of the highlights of my outbound - Saints United Voices (a choir) and Gladys Knight went to Baton Rouge and we were able to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was honestly the most incredible southern experience I've had yet. It was so great to see so many people of color there at our church building listening to this choir and screaming "Amen" & "hallelujah!" while they are getting up out of their chairs and raising their hands in the air. :) It was the cutest thing ever and I loved the spirit that was felt. It was such an inspiration to us and her and her husband bore such strong testimony about the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ & all how they were introduced to the church and the love that they have for this gospel is so incredible, seriously that it super inspired us to go out and find more black people to teach! .
& sooo.... we totally have!! We visit some people who live in the projects and apartments surrounding it as well and we even met up with G-Money!!! :D Hahahah. It was such a fun time. I love teaching them, it is seriously my FAVORITE. So, we go and visit with him at this park in the mid-morning/afternoon and then all his friends come around and we are just having good conversation, talking about Christ here and there & what I love about it was that then there is this girl who looks all mad and shes coming to the park where we are at and shes all yelling and snapping her fingers and telling the guys to come down from the park as if shes going to beat one of them up or something and then they're like "These are missionaries, we got missionaries over here!" & she looks at our name tags and immediately is like "Oh Lord, please forgive me. Jesus, please have mercy I am so sorry baby" and then shes all giving us hugs & whatnot. Hahah :) Made my day. We met again later in the week and taught Gmoney and one of his friends Nico. We read Alma 36 together and then talked about the Book of Mormon and they were all "How come no one has ever told us about this before? Where have ya'll been??" They are all in for slowly changing their lives around and it just makes us smile. What is even better is that yesterday when we went to go visit one of our investigators, Keydy (who just had a baby girl a week ago!) we were walking up her apartment complex in the projects and this big black guy just starts talking to us as we get out of our car.. we were so confused.. and then we walk up to him and he's like "Ya'll were the girls talking to those guys the other day in the street, right? What church do ya'll go to? They go to yalls church?" Then he introduces himself as "Casino" & we had a super great conversation with him and he told us he's gonna try and visit our church one day. Simply because we were talking to Gmoney and his friends about the gospel! It was so cool because I know that if we hadn't ever gone to talk to Gmoney this random guy would have probably never talked to us. Now as we drive down these streets we have everyone who we've met wave at us and introduce us like "These are my sista's!" I am going to miss being here so much.
We have also had some super great activities with the young women. On Friday we watched "Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration" with some of the girls and ate pizza and donuts & then afterwards one of the girls was like "I feel like I learned so much. I just have so many questions" and we talked with her for a good long while and she's like "How can I be like Joseph Smith?" & I was so suprised! I had never had anyone ask me that and she's just like. "He had so much faith in the Savior & he really trusted that God would answer his prayers. What can I do to be like that?" I was so happy that night. I am very very verrrryy, well aware of how imperfect Joseph Smith was.. I know that he made mistakes in his life - but on the other hand, I have the STRONGEST testimony (that's been tried over and over) on how we, as humans, are capable of really terrible things and really GREAT things and I know that the Lord trusted in him enough to know his faith was strong enough to withstand the persecution that would follow after restoring the Gospel of Jesus Christ in its fullness to the earth again. The only perfect human being who walked this earth was our Savior, we are all in the process of learning and growing and I LOVE how this gospel teaches us that perfection is a process and that it takes time. We fall but we get back up again & I'm glad the Lord has trusted me to do this work as a missionary.
Well, I hope you all have a super awesome mothers day and remember to LOVE your mommas!
